Have you Googled yourself lately? Have you checked your email address recently at haveibeenpwnd? Do you know if you liked a Tweet from 2008 that will get you canceled by the genius sleuths on TikTok? We are in the trenches on TikTok and have seen people and brands taken down in the most brutal fashion imaginable. We also watched Crumbl be resold by an Unaffiliated group at a popup in Australia for $17.50/cookie and then see complaints about how stale their cookies were for such a huge price. We applaud how clever they were, but having your brand hijacked isn't usually ideal.
TikTok is a very powerful place. Amazon is scrambling to try and keep up since TikTok is eroding market share which is evidenced by the number of TikToks Amazon posts looking for content creators so Amazon can do to TikTok what every other app has been trying to do by "borrowing" the TikTok format.
Important note: legacy media doesn't report about some of the viral trends on TikTok. We were curious about how many traditional media outlets reported on "The Downfall of BeeBetter" who sells honey from Greece online for $80 a jar (TikTok users found his supplier and informed the world where to buy the honey for $9 a jar). Surprisingly there was nothing about this event yet we see that there were over MILLIONS of posts done on the subject. Google says 76.5 MILLION posts are related to this event, but we didn't audit this and it's not our campaign so we'll assume at least 30 MILLION posts are related to this based on what we personally witnessed on the platform. It is mind blowing that with so many eyeballs and creators pumping out content that the old guard of media missed this phenomenon. TikTok is different and having a guide there is no different than hiring a guide to take you to the top of Mera Peak in Nepal. M ost people have a piece of tech they got 10 years ago but didn't recycle for some reason. Maybe it is in a box in your garage right now. A BlackBerry or one of those tiny pink iPods when iPods weren't embedded in iPhones. We change jobs, we do new projects. Is what Google says about us a BlackBerry in a box at the back of our garage or is it new enough to support our brand? didn't recycle it. They never go away. We aren't poo-pooing vintage or classics if that's your brand. We are also not shilling for mindless consumerism that harms the planet. We're just inviting you to think about the last time you refreshed your information online.
